Whether you have been working on your ability to jump higher, or you are just getting started with your training, you need to be aware that it takes a certain amount of attention to get the most out of your training. Once you have put the effort into training and conditioning yourself, you should be looking at the best ways to apply the maximum impact to your jump skills.

When you are training to improve your jump, you will generally be looking to combine improved fitness and improved technique. If you improve one without the other, you will not hit the maximum results you are capable of. Being fit with bad technique won’t allow you to outperform your rivals.

While this site focuses on the improvements that you can make to your basketball skills, by working on your jump, the same situation would apply, no matter what sport or athletic pursuit you are involved in. By improving your explosiveness and the techniques by which you unleash them, you will be able to unlock the full potential of your jump.

We all know that being able to jump higher is going to increase your ability to dunk, when it comes to basketball. Wanting to be able to dunk, or dunk better is often a key motivator for wanting to improve your jump. If you can get higher, you have more chance of outperforming those who want to stop you from scoring.

It’s not just about being able to score more dunked shots, however. Part of maximizing your jump skills will be using your skills in all areas of your game. If you just focus on using your skills when you are going for a dunk, you will be missing out.

Working on your jump skills can have an impact on any situation where you need to get height to reach your optimal outcome. Jump shots are an obvious example, away from the dunk, but when it comes to basketball, it always pays to be able to play some mean defence too. If you can strip the ball from a rival or post someone else’s dunk, because the opportunity arise, you can change the game.

If you can make sure that you use every opportunity to make sure you have the maximum impact on play, you can ensure that you reach your potential, and get more out of the game. Knowing that you have trained to your maximum ability to jump higher, then implementing the skills can be incredibly satisfying, and may lead to you working on other elements of your game.

When it comes to athletic objectives, the aim of jumping higher has to be one of the most common. Not simply because it is desirable for a wide variety of sporting activities, from Basketball to Volleyball, but also because it requires working on a number of skill areas.

If you want to improve your jump height, you’ll need to focus on a broad range of skills, from balance to strength and through to technique and reflexes. Each of the elements needs to be in sync, order to achieve the goals you set out to achieve.

Jumping higher doesn’t happen through any magical formula, although a good training program is the closest thing to one. You will need to make sure your body and mind are focused on the task of jumping higher, if you want to succeed.

At the same time, anyone can improve their jump height, at any time. It doesn’t matter if you are experienced in your port or just starting out. You don’t need to be tall, or have a certain build, in order to be able to accelerate your jumping skills. What you do need is the right approach, which is where the concept of being coachable comes into play.

Being coachable is an entirely necessary part of developing many skills, not least the important task of working on how to jump higher. It can mean a lot of things to different people and can be something that shows itself in any number of different ways.

The obvious thing is to think of having someone alongside you, as you train, helping you to get through your exercise and jump training program. In this definition, a coach is there to direct you along the path towards achieving your goals.

Traditionally, we may think of a coach in very specific ways, such as the image of the high school Basketball, Football or Athletics coach. This version of the coach uses a very driven approach to ensure that they get the best out of their athletes.

While traditional forms of coaching can be valuable to some athletes, most people have the motivation to drive their success more than they have the insight to know what training they should complete, at what times, in order to jump higher, or whatever their athletic goal is.

A person who trains alongside you can also act as a coach, if they are able to help you to identify which areas you can work on, in order to move closer to your goals, within a training program. Sometimes, having a training buddy can help to maintain your training and add value to your own understanding.

In a scenario where you have someone’s input on the training, having a solid jump training program is all you need in order to get the full coaching experience. In fact, with this in place, you could even be your own coach, if you are careful to note your own progress and development needs.

In a training program like The Jump Manual, you can even get access to coaching from the program’s creator, in order to help you establish and maintain your jump training goals. This would happen over the internet, adding value to your own insight into your training.

I’ve been caught up in improving my dunk for some time, but lately, I’ve been thinking about jumping higher and further, in more general ways. Mostly I’ve been thinking about the fact that it’s such a generally important athletic skill, which applies to almost any sport.

Sure, it’s obvious that a basketball player benefits from an extended jump, and the hurdle sprint and long jump are built around it. Then, you’ve also got sports like volleyball and football, which have a really significant jumping component. Not to mention soccer goalkeepers and shot putters.

In fact, it’s hard to think of many sports, anywhere in the world, which don’t require a solid jumping skill, where being better at jumping wouldn’t be an advantage. Off the top of my head I’m getting golf and motorsport, which are the most physically contained sports out there. Even then, I can imagine jumping ability would be a good indication of fitness to perform.

The Jump Advantage

The height and power of a jump are regularly used, in all kinds of different sports, to measure the fitness of an athlete, and there are simple reasons for that. It measures a balance of power and control, which can be incredibly useful. To achieve a powerful jump, you need to be able to develop power and unleash it effectively.

Jumping higher requires that you develop significant physical explosiveness. There’s no use in having a lot of potential power stored, unless you can let it out in a quick, controlled burst. If you get too heavy with slow bulky muscle, you may get left standing by someone leaner and lighter, who’s developed their muscle in a very specific way, to maximize their jump skill.

Professional Jump Performance

With so many people needing to jump higher, it’s surprising that many of the fundamental jump improvement techniques remain unknown to most amateur athletes. If you want to know how to improve your jump, to professional standards, you need to train like a pro.

Take Plyometrics, for example. It’s a training methodology, used in lots of sporting fields. It focuses, simply, on improving your jump explosiveness, by working on the motions used to jump effectively. Many people haven’t heard of this field of sporting science, which can really improve almost anyone’s performance, even if they jump well right now.

Professional coaches know about it, but many people, looking to improve their jump, forget about the need to be explosive in their power. Many people focus on building muscle, without thinking about how they can keep this power ready to explode. Jumping higher means having that pop, for elevation and distance.

Of course, understanding this kind of thing requires knowledge, then putting that knowledge into practice, which is why I suggest checking out The Jump Manual Training Course, as well as keeping up to date with my site!

Your body has more athletic potential than you could realize. Learning to harness it for your jump training can see massive improvement in your vertical.

You know how incredible, stressful situations lead people to be able to complete tasks which are normally outside of their range? Ever wondered how you could unleash extra muscle potential for your jump without getting into a life threatening situation first?!

Stress and Increased Strength

When people have fear for their life or their loved ones, amazing things can happen. Everyday people perform unbelievable acts every day- pulling family members out of burning buildings or holding their breath underwater for longer than they could normally imagine. People pull out strength they never knew they had.

Real Hollywood type stuff and it happens in normal life, to normal people, because of adrenaline and the ability of the human body to outperform its boundaries under stress. Why can’t we perform like this all the time?

It’s something I’ve thought about a lot over the years.—and I recently realized that understanding the body’s control system can unleash a lot of athletic potential.

Understanding the Body’s Control System

Your Central Nervous System (CNS) controls your muscles, and the amount of energy they can use. Your CNS sends a kind of electrical signal to your muscles to regulate the amount of energy they can use. When your body identifies danger your CNS allows more electricity to pass to the muscles, which allows them to work harder.

This means that most people are not working at their full capacity for most of the time, even when they are training. There’s a good reason for this, as working at full tilt all the time, would allow your muscles to let off so much force that muscles could rip from their tendons.

But that doesn’t mean that it would be a bad idea to get more out of your muscles, you just don’t want all the power, all the time, as it’s useful that your muscles stay attached to your skeleton!

Training the Body’s Control System

You know how some people play better when they’re fired up for a big game, or how some people thrive off a work/school deadline? Well, imagine the right training as a way of getting more out of your muscles, without having to get the stress levels rising first.

Stress reduces the limits placed on your Central Nervous System (CNS). But the other, better, way to get more out of your muscles is to train in a way that retools your CNS and expands the bandwidth available.

Getting the right combination of drills, reps and rests will, over time, get your body more comfortable with increasing the output, without having to be stressed out first. It takes concentration, motivation and the right patterns to get the most out of your jump training,

By doing this, your muscles will learn to relax when they need to and stop pulling against the push of your jump. This can have a huge impact on the way you jump and increase your vertical, getting you closer to your maximum potential.

There are many jump training mistakes people make that stops them from ever being able to dunk. Endurance training is one of them but you might be surprised to know why.

Endurance training, where you teach your body to undergo and adapt to long term stresses, can be of benefit to certain disciplines, such as marathon runners. How will it affect your jump training and your dunk?

Define the Development

If you are trying to learn how to dunk you need to realize that you are not trying to become a marathon runner or a weight lifter. You need to train with this in mind. Yes, you will need to train and develop your muscles, but you’re not trying to create a situation where your muscles react in a way that’s unsuitable for your choice of athletic pursuit.

You need fast and responsive muscles, so that you stay agile, with lots of pop to go for the jump. It’s no good creating any sort of artificial situations where you are training doesn’t suit the sport of Basketball. That’s where jump training comes in.

Why Fatigue Kills Intensity

Trying to expand your capacity to jump when you are at a point of fatigue just doesn’t work. If you run as fast as you can and then, immediately, try to go for a big vertical jump you’ll see the results are far less than you’d expect. Basketball combines running and jumping, as part of its core, but jump training won’t work effectively if you run intensely for a minute first.

What you need to do is to realize that for the purposes of jump training you need to be able to put the maximum intensity into each and every jump. If you are feeling the burn too much you won’t get to throw the required intensity into each repetition. And if you can’t put enough weight or repetition behind each and every attempt you won’t get the effect you want.

Strength & Power Vs Endurance

Strength and power are best developed by completing exercises with high intensity and low ranges of repetition. Any exercise programs which ask you to complete hundreds of repetitions of the same exercise are going to increase your muscle endurance, but not the strength and power of your muscles- which is what you need for dunking or jump training.

It can be very difficult for a body to be trained to be fast and powerful at the same time as developing endurance. They are not very compatible forms of training. Marathon runners can run for hours, but they won’t be as fast as sprinters and their jump, compared to a basketball player, will be tiny. You have to know what your body needs- Specialize to get the ultimate results.

Can plyometric training make me jump higher? To find out what plyometrics can do for your vertical jump then check out this article.

Even if you keep up with lots of different types of training systems there’s a good chance you might not be familiar with Plyometric Training. This article will discuss why you should get to know, if you have any reason to want to jump higher.

Whether it’s Basketball, Volleyball or Track & Field, you can get a killer advantage by applying these methods to pile on the vertical.

What is Plyometric Training?

Okay, so this is the short version- it’s a system of drills that are designed to increase the explosive energy available to your body. Using Plyometric methods will give you powerful reactive strength, which you can release like a spring. Can you think of a time where a little extra spring would have been useful?

The methods of Plyometrics are designed not just as a means of jumping higher, though they will certainly do some serious work on your verticality. The method also focuses on getting your body to be better at absorbing the shocks of landing and unleashing the body’s stored energy.

Where Did Plyometrics Come From?

It’s a system that was originally designed in Eastern Europe, during the 1970’s. It was developed for Olympic athletes, around the time where the Eastern Europeans started winning medals all over the place.

Since then, it’s been developed and applied all over the world. The name was thought up by Fred Wilt, an American coach in the mid 1970’s and it’s a system that’s been in development ever since. It’s been applied to a wide range of sports, from Football to Weight Lifting.

Can I benefit From Plyometric Training?

Want to dunk, spike a ball harder or get that next level high jump cleared? Sick of getting out jumped by rivals, that don’t have your skills in other areas? Well, you should find that Plyometric training gives the edge you deserve.

Plyometrics’ll give you more spring and pop, no matter what sport you practice- and that can really make a difference. Sometimes it could be the difference between scoring that result or not.

If you’re convinced that you have to be Basketball tall to dunk, you’ll be happy to know you are wrong. Almost anyone can dunk, with the right kind of explosive power. And almost any sport can benefit from being able to unleash a charge of stored up, explosive energy.

If you are trying to improve your vertical leap then there are a number of techniques you can use to have the most impact. If you play sports such as basketball and volleyball then a good vertical is essential so following a system for strengthening your jump will vastly improve your game.

To start, it is important to mention that you should not overwork your leg muscles. You do not want to cause any long term damage or halt your training for any period of time. So make sure you are not training excessively.

One great exercise to use is the lunge. But in order to have the maximum impact to improve your vertical you should leap up in between each lunge in an explosive movement. This fast movement is what strengthens your leg muscles and improves your leap.

==> See proof of massive vertical leap gains

Calf raises are also great exercises and you can perform these on a staircase. The staircase can also be used for running up which is great exercise but particularly good for working your leg muscles in a way that will benefit you for your sport.

Squats are also great when you add in the element of explosive movement. Go down slowly and then push up in a fast and dynamic movement. This will again equip you well for leaping for a dunk or spike.

If you work on these exercises you should see improvements when you move onto the court or sports field. Make sure to monitor progress so you know exactly where you are and how much you have moved along. This should help to motivate and encourage you when you can see the improvement.

If you want to check out a complete system which goes into a lot more detail then take a look at the site below and check out the video.

The point of plyometrics exercises is to give explosive power to athletes for jumping and sprinting. With the right training and conditioning you can give yourself this power for activities such as basketball and volleyball. It is a different kind of training to the standard cardio and weight routines most people are familiar with though and the emphasis is on the explosive power.

Keep these things in mind when doing plyometrics.

Make sure you are full warmed up and you have stretched before you begin. This will help to avoid any injuries.

Focus on explosive movements. This is not about endurance but fast movements which will help you to jump higher and sprint faster.

Do not overdo it. If you are new to this then start slowly and work up to higher reps. If you push yourself too hard then you could be out of action with an injury.

Maintain solid foot positions and movement. You want your ankle to be controlled and to be landing on the ball of your foot instead of the sides of your feet. Concentrate on control as your feet touch the ground.

Avoid dampening your landing and if possible practice on the same floor as you will be using for your sport e.g. a basketball court or running track.

Remain balanced. You may find yourself losing balance when you start. That’s okay but try and work to a point where you are fully in control of your movements.

The fundamentals of successful volleyball training include getting a higher vertical jump, increasing stamina and gaining an explosive and potent power. While it is important to work on your skillset such as spiking and passing, without a strong physical prowess these will never see their true potential.

In order to really maximise your physical ability you should work on your strength while also allowing some time for aerobic work. The strength aspect should manifest itself in powerful and explosive leaps and strikes of the ball.

To really get the best leap and add inches to current jump you can work on plyometric exercises. These are the best kinds of exercises for sports such as basketball and volleyball and here are a few examples.

==> Get A Complete Vertical Workout Here

Squats. You are probably familiar with squats if you have done any kind of athletic trainign before. In order to improve your jump power though you should aim to go down into the squat relatively slowly and then explode up. Your muscles get stretched and over time you will get that fast action you see in volleyball players.

Push ups. These are similar to traditional push ups but with a small twist. As with a normal push up you slowly lower your body to the floor but as you are at the lowest point you then push up quickly so your hands leave the floor. This action will help with your upper body power.

If you want a complete system for working on your vertical jump then you should check out the site below. Take a look at the video on for full details of how it is possible to massively increase your jumping abilities.

If you are wondering how to jump higher and add some extra inches to your vertical then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve got some top tips to share with you that should help you a great deal.

Okay let’s get started:

Make sure you warm up. So many people neglect this part but if you warm up you’re muscles will be stretched and it much better shape to make big leaps. You’ll also help to prevent any injuries of course.

Make sure you are completely focused. Visualization is an important part of pro sports and if you speak to athletes such as 100m sprinters for example they will tell you they see the race in full before its even happened. Get into the habit of focusing on what you are about to do.

Start dunking one-handed first. When you have mastered that you can move to two-handed. This way you can get the most reach potential first from your individual arms before switching to both arms.

==> Click Here To Find Out How To Jump Higher

Try stair running. This will strengthen your legs and particularly your calf muscles. This is important for getting that fast explosive action as you jump up.

Use jump rope to work your leg muscles and increase mobility. This can be very effective in adding power which will then give you some extra inches in your jump.

Don’t grab onto the rim when you are just starting. There is a tendency to want to grab hold of the rim and I know we’ve all been there. But when you are just starting out you should avoid this and focus on the action and movement your body makes.

Work on your handling of the basketball. This is very important as when you are in mid-air the worst thing you can do is lose your control on the ball. Get used to having the ball in each hand and improving your grip.

Okay, that’s just the basics covered. To really add some serious inches to your vertical jump head over to this site:
